Learning Together

Year 5 - Hawks

Welcome to Year 5

In Year 5, we work hard and demonstrate mutual respect with one another so that we can learn in a calm and happy environment.

We take pride in our dedicated work ethic and strive to always be our best.

We encourage each other to be confident and happy individuals, while working and playing together as a team.

We endeavour to live, love and learn with confidence and happiness as we grow.

Please feel free to contact me via the school office 01254 291250 if you have any questions, queries, or concerns,

Thank you

Mrs Minoprio-Nicholson

Please ensure your child reads at least 4 times a week.

An adult needs to sign the record to confirm reading has taken place. Please spend time with your child noting new vocabulary and asking your child questions about what they have read.

PE day is every Tuesday so please ensure your child has their PE kit. This must be kept in school until half term when it can be taken home to be washed.

A reminder that no jewellery is to be worn in school - this includes stud earings.

Useful online learning resources

BBC Bitesize www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize  This is a new service set up this week that is offering daily lessons. I have had a look at the Year 5 lessons and the Maths, English and Reading lessons this week would link very well to the units we cover in school. The Music and PSHE lessons this week also look fantastic. If you get through all of the work that I have set and would like another challenge, have a go at these. I would love to hear what you think!

DfE Home Education Resources - Please click this link to find a list of resources that the government have put together to supplement the daily tasks that we are setting for the children. Please make sure you check the key stage as some of the resources are designed for secondary school age children.

The Oak National Academy - https://www.thenational.academy/ This website offers daily lesson videos led by teachers. I have had a look through this week's and they are fantastic. They could be used as extra practice or, if your child would prefer to complete these instead of the Maths and English tasks in the home learning section, then that would be fine. This is a great way for the children to use metacognition and take ownership of their own learning.

Scholastic Learn at Home - https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-prek-k.html (Alternatively you can use google to search for ‘Scholastic Learn at Home’)

This is a website that has been set up specifically for school closures. It has stories and activities based around various different topics that link to your children’s learning. More activities are being added to the site every day.

Twinkl-

Step 1: visit www.twinkl.co.uk/offer

Step 2- fill in the 'new to twinkl' form.

Step 3- enter the code  CVDTWINKLHELPS

Step 4- search KS2 activities

TT Rockstars-

Five minutes each day will really help the children to remember their times tables.

As the current situation means that the children will be spending more time online to access their learning, here is a useful link about online safety:
