Year 5/6 - Falcons

Welcome to the fabulous Falcons class!

Staff

My name is Mrs Kelly and I am the class teacher of the Falcons.

Mrs Martin teaches on a Monday morning and Mrs Gillibrand on a Monday afternoon.

You can contact me via the school email address: office@stmatthews.blackburn.sch.uk

We also have Mrs Karolia and Mrs Zegham working with the children in Falcons too.

Curriculum

This term, the Falcons are going to be very busy. There are amazing projects and interesting topics in all subjects. If you would like to find out more about what your child will be learning, the class newsletter is included at the bottom of the page.

Our library day is Monday afternoon - please bring in your library book each Monday so you can change your book, or just enjoy the book you've selected.

Working at Home

In the Falcons, we value and encourage reading at home to improve comprehension and help your child to be a better writer.  Every day, your child will be expected to bring in their reading books in so please ensure that they bring their purple book bag with them before they set off for school each morning.  The children will be given the opportunity to have their books changed once a week so please can you check that your child is reading regularly and has their reading record signed at least 4 or 5  times per week.   Falcons love to read to someone.

The Falcons will also be given new spellings every Monday with a spelling book for them to look at at home.  These need to be practiced every night and the sheet filled in so that your child can do their best to learn new vocabulary.

As well as the spelling, we reinforce our learning in Maths each week by completing tasks on Mathletics and Timetables Rock stars. This helps keep our arithmetic skills sharp and gives the Falcons essential practice of new learning.  Every Falcon has their own login, and it would be great if you can help ensure your child completes these tasks independently and in full each week. There are helpful videos and hints on the websites to support your child in their tasks.
