Welcome to Year 3 - Doves!
Welcome to the Doves!
This is the first year of KS2 at St. Matthew’s and a very exciting time for the children! We take great pride in our helping them make a smooth transition from the infants to the juniors, and work hard to further develop their personal, social and emotional skills.
I am Miss Giles, the Doves' class teacher. Mrs Nagdee is in class to support the children's learning, so please feel free to talk to either of us about any concerns you may have about your child.
The Doves enjoy a varied and engaging curriculum based on topics that enthuse and motivate children. Through this, we work hard to further develop pupils’ reading, writing and mathematics on a daily basis.
I will send a letter home at the beginning of each term detailing what will be covered in Literacy, mathematics and topic. This will allow you to help your child at home by talking about what has been covered in school. I will also post this on the Doves class page so watch this space!
The children are expected to read their two reading books at home with an adult and return them on their reading day. This is a very special time with your child as they love sharing books with their parents! Reading is a very important skill that is best developed both in school and at home.
From the Spring Term onwards, children will also be given a piece of homework each week to complete. We encourage you to support your child with this whenever possible.
As well as lots of interesting work in school, we also go on many exciting trips in the Doves! For example in the last two years we have been to Sunnyhurst Woods, Ribchester Museum, Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, Stonyhurst College and Grounds, The Manchester Jewish Museum, Lytham St. Annes, a barge trip and White Scar Caves.
In the Doves, we have high expectations of our children and they do not let us down! We are very proud of their achievements and are happy to welcome you to our classroom at anytime!
