Welcome to Year 2 - Swallows!
Hello and a big welcome to Swallows!
I’m Miss Giles, the teacher of our Swallows Class. Mrs Cook is our teaching assistant and she works full-time in Swallows.
We learn about many exciting things in Swallows with every term having an overall topic that links all the subjects. We teach each of these topics as creatively as possible, so that all areas of the curriculum are covered. In the Autumn term our topic is Fire and Ice. In Spring we learn about Superheroes and in the Summer term we find out about our history in our topic of Who worked in the mills.
We also have a range of science topics throughout the year such as All Living Things and their Habitats, Sound, Uses of everyday Materials, Growth of Plants and Animals including Humans.
Homework in Swallows is given on a Friday, to be returned by Tuesday. In addition, reading books are taken home every day and the reading record should be signed by parents at least 5 times a week.
Once a week Swallows visit the school library. During this time the children change their books and can keep them at home for a week to enjoy.
We have 2 sessions of PE per week, which is either spent outside or in the hall. Our PE work is often linked to our topics.
In Swallows, we work hard, play hard and have lots of fun at the same time, so the classroom has a role play area, creative table, writing table, maths area and a book corner for the children to extend their learning and make Swallows class a great place to be!
