Home Reading

Your child will start to bring home books to share with you at home during the week beginning 18th September. They will also have a reading record book. Please sign this every time you read with your child (four times weekly minimum). Books will be sent home every Friday. Please keep them at home for the week and return to school the following Thursday so that we can give them a new one. For more information please see the document below.

At St. Matthews we use the Oxford Reading Tree to teach reading and phonics. The books have six main characters: Mum, Dad, Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy the dog. You children will become very familiar with these characters and you also probably will to. A great resource we have access to is the Oxford Owl, this is a website where children can view some of the books they will be reading in an electronic format. It also has an audio book feature and activities linking to the book.

The link to the website is bellow.

To access the books go to the website and click 'Class Login'
